Indians Are Traveling More Than Ever, and the World is Taking Notice

The Indian travel boom is reshaping global tourism, as international tourism boards, luxury hotels, and destination management companies ramp up efforts to attract Indian travelers. With outbound travel numbers soaring, countries worldwide are rolling out new strategies, exclusive deals, and high-profile partnerships to tap into this high-potential market.

From South Korea to Singapore, Türkiye to Dubai, destinations are crafting unique offerings to cater to the evolving preferences of Indian travelers. Whether it’s the K-wave influence in Seoul, visa relaxations in Dubai, or experiential travel in Azerbaijan and Malaysia, the Indian traveler’s growing footprint is impossible to ignore.

South Korea’s Rising Appeal: The K-Wave Effect on Indian Travelers

One of the biggest success stories in India’s outbound tourism market has been South Korea. In 2024 alone, over 176,000 Indian travelers visited South Korea—a staggering 44% increase from the previous year, according to Myong Kil Yun, Regional Director for India & SAARC at Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

This surge in interest is largely fueled by the Hallyu wave, encompassing K-pop, K-dramas, and K-beauty, which has captivated Indian audiences. Additionally, South Korea’s modern infrastructure and seamless connectivity make it an attractive travel destination.

Recognizing this potential, Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel have partnered with KTO in a strategic two-year agreement aimed at increasing visibility and expanding customized travel experiences. “Beyond traditional promotions, we are focusing on regional tourism development and special interest tours to sustain this growth,” said Yun.

Beyond South Korea: Expanding Partnerships with Moscow, Georgia, and Sabah

South Korea isn’t the only country benefiting from India’s travel boom. Thomas Cook (India) has also signed long-term agreements with tourism boards in:

Moscow, Russia – A destination known for its rich history and cultural experiences.
Georgia – An emerging hotspot for Indian travelers looking for a mix of nature, adventure, and heritage.
Sabah, Malaysia – A paradise for eco-tourism and wildlife lovers.

“These partnerships aim to showcase new and lesser-known destinations while driving growth in the outbound Indian travel sector,” said Rajeev Kale, President and Country Head of Holidays, MICE, and Visa at Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.

Türkiye’s Indian Tourist Boom: A 20.7% Increase in Arrivals

Türkiye, already a favorite among Indian travelers, is witnessing a 20.7% increase in visitors from India compared to 2023. In response, Türkiye’s tourism board is sending its largest-ever delegation to India this year to promote its offerings and conduct roadshows in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.

By strengthening its presence in major Indian cities, Türkiye aims to position itself as a top destination for Indian travelers in 2025.

Dubai’s Luxury Focus: Targeting High-Net-Worth Indian Travelers

Dubai has long been a preferred international destination for Indian tourists. But according to Bader Ali Habib, Director of Proximity Markets at Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the focus is now shifting from mass tourism to attracting high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth Indian travelers.

To facilitate more Indian arrivals, Dubai recently extended visa-on-arrival services to Indian passport holders with valid visas from countries like Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dubai’s tourism board is also marketing its latest luxury attractions, including:

🎡 Ain Dubai – The world’s tallest Ferris wheel.
🏨 Marsa Al Arab – A brand-new luxury resort.
🎢 House of Hype – A futuristic entertainment venue.

With these premium offerings, Dubai aims to position itself as a go-to luxury destination for affluent Indian travelers.

Singapore Strengthens India Ties with Exclusive Experiences

Singapore is another country that has consistently attracted Indian travelers, and in 2025, it is celebrating 60 years of diplomatic ties with India. As part of this milestone, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has introduced special travel experiences, including:

🎭 The Gamechangers Studio Show – A unique initiative showcasing Singapore’s hidden gems.
🎤 60 Insiders Panel – Featuring travel experts and influencers sharing local insights.

“Indian travelers visiting Singapore can also enjoy exclusive deals and privileges under the ‘Just Between Us Friends’ campaign,” said Markus Tan, Regional Director for India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa (IMESA) at STB.

Luxury Hotels & Resorts Catering to Indian Preferences

As the demand for luxury experiences grows among Indian travelers, high-end hotels and resorts worldwide are making strategic changes:

🍽️ Four Seasons Resort, Koh Samui, Thailand – Hired Indian chef Deepak Palakurthi to cater to the rising demand for Indian cuisine.
🏝️ Kuda Villingili Resort, Maldives – Anticipates a 10-15% increase in bookings from Indian travelers.
🌿 Chenot Palace Gabala, Azerbaijan – A luxury wellness retreat expecting a 10% growth in Indian guests in 2025.

The increasing focus on Indian culinary preferences, personalized experiences, and wellness retreats highlights how luxury hospitality brands are adapting to attract Indian tourists.

The Future of Indian Travel: Experiential & Interest-Based Tourism

According to SD Nandakumar, President and Country Head for Holidays & Corporate Tours at SOTC Travel, India’s outbound travel market is evolving beyond mainstream destinations. “Indians are now seeking unique and experiential travel opportunities, with global music festivals, sporting events, and offbeat attractions becoming major motivators,” he said.

Experiential travel trends among Indian tourists include:

🎶 Music & Cultural Festivals – Coachella (USA), Tomorrowland (Belgium), and Ultra Music Festival (Singapore).
Sporting Events – Football World Cup, Olympics, and Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments.
🛤️ Adventure & Eco-Tourism – Hiking in Patagonia, Safari in Kenya, and Arctic expeditions.

Nandakumar believes that strategic collaborations with emerging destinations and the growing appetite for niche experiences will further fuel India’s outbound travel growth.

Final Thoughts: The Indian Travel Boom is Just Getting Started

As global travel resumes at full pace, India is emerging as a key player in international tourism. From South Korea to Türkiye, Dubai to Singapore, the world is competing to attract Indian travelers with customized offerings, exclusive deals, and long-term partnerships.

With a growing economy, an expanding middle class, and a strong desire for experiential travel, Indian tourists are shaping the future of global tourism like never before.

Whether it’s a K-pop-inspired getaway to Seoul, a luxury escape in Dubai, or an adventure in the Caucasus mountains, one thing is certain: Indians are traveling more, and they’re traveling better. 🌍✈️
